SOMALIA: Anti-Sharif Hassan demonstration continues for the second day in Baydhaba

Hundreds of people have gathered in the centre of Baydhaba, the regional capital of Baay region to demonstrate against the visit of Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, former Parliament Speaker and now an MP and candidate for the disputed administration formation for the region, RBC Radio reports.

Mr Aden has spent his night on last night at the AMISOM camp base inside the former presidency of Baydhaba after angry demonstrators restricted him from going to the downtown on Sunday.

The demonstrators continued to call Mr Aden to leave the town as they also condemned the Mogadishu-based federal government for providing arms and ammunition to Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden to destabilize the peaceful town.

According to Raxanreeb’s reporter in Baay region, gun shots were heard as the demonstrators were chanting in the streets of the town.  No casualties reported yet.

most of the town’s business places were closed and armed men were seen in the streets of the city centre.

Earlier today, two prominent lawmakers and politicians hailing from the region strongly condemned Sharif Hassan for creating mess and destabilizing the town and called him to leave the town immediately.

The former Parliament Speaker, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, who is under AMISOM protection has not yet spoken to the media.
