Zimbabwe-Lets-Unite Demonstration in Leeds

More than 100 people attended the demonstration against forced deportation in Leeds on the 7th January 2013.

BBC Leeds radio interviewed a few individuals – Mr Sunduza Phakathi; Sandra Ncube; Gertrude Kugura and Mr Mandla Mabuza regarding alleged inhuman treatment received by Zimbabweans on the hands of Home Office’s contractors (UKBA and G4s).

Almost 300 people signed the Petition later handed to one immigration official named as Sharon, who is the Head of UKBA in Leeds (West Yorkshire) to submit it to the Secretary of State.

Group members Kevin Ngwenya; Gertrude Kugura; Chelesile Ncube and Sunduza Phakathi reported that Sharon made a promise that she would ensure they receive a response from the Secretary of State.

The organisation’s coordinator Kevin Ngwenya said:

We will continue to do many more demonstrations until we obtain a reasonable answer to our problem. A problem affecting one Zimbabwean is a problem for us all, with or without status in the UK.
