The Egyptian people tasted the joy of freedom when they broke the barrier of fear and gathered in liberty squares, imposing their will on the repressive regime in the January 25 Revolution that dazzled the whole world.
For the first time, the Egyptian people chose their representatives in government of their own free will. They chose the first elected civilian president in Egypt’s history, and approved the best Constitution the country ever had. They also elected their Parliament, both chambers – the People’s Assembly and the consultative Shura Council, through free, fair and most credible elections witnessed by all the nations of the world.
However, this will of the Egyptian people was trampled on by a few self-serving opportunists at home and abroad, who fabricated a series of crises in Egypt, making citizens’ lives more difficult, and executed a coup against the will of the people, robbing them of their freedom and stealing the gains of their Revolution through a full-fledged military coup.
Inhuman, heinous massacres were committed by these putschists against the unarmed peaceful protestors opposed to their bloody putsch, the most recent and reprehensible of which were Rabaa Al-Adaweya, Nahda and Ramses massacres, where the putschists’ forces used weapons, internationally-prohibited gas bombs, live bullets and fire bombs to break up non-violent sit-ins, killing thousands of protesters, injuring many thousands more, and even burning many unarmed peaceful demonstrators alive in their tents.
However, the Egyptian people refused to be enslaved again. They gathered in the streets and public squares, over the past two weeks, in huge and thunderous marches in governorates across Egypt, confusing the coup commanders’ calculations, despite the imposition of a state of emergency and a dusk-to-dawn curfew.
In this regard, the Anti-Coup, Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance calls the honorable patriotic Egyptian people for a mass rally Friday, August 30 to reclaim the robbed Revolution and wrest their stolen freedom in the largest demonstrations and sit-ins ever witnessed by the streets and squares of Egypt in all provinces.
The Alliance urges the Egyptian people who will mass in liberty squares Friday, August 30 to continue with escalating events in all peaceful forms until the recovery of their January 25 Revolution and all its gains.
The Alliance announces the activation of a peaceful civil disobedience campaign starting Friday, August 30 as an effective means of challenging the putschists and forcing them to end the coup, seeking to achieve all the demands of the Revolution.
On Thursday, August 29, the Alliance will convene a press conference to follow up and inform the public opinion about the changes and developments this stage is dictating on all.
