Madrid’s subway workers voted to strike on January 4 and 5, coinciding with the popular Cabalgata de Reyes parade, in which the Three Kings of Orient travel through the city center on the night before January 6, when Spanish children traditionally receive their presents.
However, trains will run at 90 percent of their regular frequency on the lines that coincide with the route.
Starting January 17, workers will go on an indefinite strike during morning and evening rush hours.
Metro de Madrid employees are protesting the elimination of their bonus and a breach of their collective bargaining agreement for failing to get raises in 2011 and 2012.
