Adding a new twist to the political crisis in Macedonia, opposition leader Branco Crvenkovski urged his supporters on Monday to initiate a campaign of civil disobedience and revolt after a rancorous disagreement over the size of next year’s budget approved by parliament in a vote boycotted by the opposition Social Democratic Union.
As opposition MPs scuffled with pro-government counterparts to try to prevent a debate on a budget, security guards forced opposition deputies out of the parliament building who then joined their supporters in the streets as the government pushed through its own budget proposal.
Branko Crvenkovski accused the center-right government of Prime MInister Nikola Gruevski of suspending democracy.
