Robert Mugabe and hisruling political party, the Zanu-PF, are already laying plans for a quick and easy national election (E-TV News, 11pm broadcast, 28/3/2012) devoid of any opposition. It is clear that the means in which he plans to do this might further violate the human rights of an already turbulent country’s citizens.
In this clip, activism group Women and Men of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA), lead a peaceful protest on Valentine’s Day this year which prompts violent intervention from government riot police squads.
On the other side of the political fence, Zanu-PF speakers at a meeting make incendiary statements about the hate Zimbabweans should still be harbouring for white people and any opposition to the ruling party that could be seen as supporting “the white man”.
These political statements of the ruling party at its meetings are encouraged while any other voices of opposition or concern are silenced, even if they are peaceful in their protestation.
