Deposed Deputy Machado charged with incitement over Feb. 12 events

The information appears on a court order banning the Venezuelan opposition leader from leaving the country.

Incitement to civil disobedience, hatred among Venezuelans, and encouragement of offenses threatening public peace are the charges the Attorney General’s Office has brought against deposed opposition legislator María Corina Machado for her alleged involvement in the events of February 12, 2013 in Caracas.

The information appears on the court order issued on June 18, which bans Machado from leaving the country.

The court order was issued on grounds of the «seriousness of the offense, the social damage caused, risk of flight, the truth of the facts, and justice.»

The offenses Machado has been charged with are punished with a six-year term in prison, standing below the limit set forth in the Organic Code on Criminal Procedures (COPP) to send someone to prison.
