Almost 500 people participated in the demonstration at Layfayette Square, including Mayor Vincent Gray and Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton. As with previous demonstrations that were held recently, there were acts of civil disobedience.

«I pay taxes and I think it’s unjust and I’m upset at President Obama for not standing with us,» says Marcie Cohen, one of the protesters who was arrested.

D.C. voting rights activists say President Obama sold out the District during the latest round of budget talks after he allowed Republican lawmakers to cut funding for needle exchange programs and abortions for low income women in the city.

Since April, 73 protesters have been arrested, and more demonstrations and acts of civil disobedience have been planned.
